Not
good years for rugby, and not only because of the war and all the
difficulties associated with it (for example the weather in 1946-47
led to the abandonment of the Border League).
Starting as the Combined Trades in
1939-40, 1946 was the first year that Hawick Trades came onto the
pitch under their current name.
By 1947-48 they had already started
picking up trophies - thanks to the dedication and knowledge of
committee men such as Jimmy Murray (founding President) and the
on-field skills of Harry Spreng, Jimmy Lumsden, Jock
Imrie and others of that era.
We have six fascinating photos
from the 1940s, starting with one from
1939-40; but before you look at these, why not get the
flavour of that time by looking at the members of the 1946-47
committee, and of seeing how Trades did in their very first season.
