With
the Trades well-established as a force in Junior rugby, the fifities
saw the consolidation of the club's reputation on the pitch, and the
formation of new ties with clubs in other areas - notably with
Glynneath in Wales.The early
fifties saw some of the original players leaving us (in 1952 Harry
Spreng played his last game for us after no less than 152
appearances for the team in 7 years - a fine records in those days) and their
replacement by the new guard, many of whom are to this day
well-known and much respected figures around the town.
The later fifties brought to us a
host of weel-kent faces such as Jock Mallin, Elliot Broatch, Ronnie
Grieve, George "Cush" Willison, Derek Grant, Drew O'Mara, and Jack Bowie (who
was also to give such fine service to Hawick and Wilton
Cricket Club) - and many, many other great players.
The photographic record of these
years is a bit sparse at present, but we hope to rectify this as
soon as possible. In the meantime, please enjoy looking
through the records that we have. |
